How Often Do You Need to Clean?
Outdoor products, such as architectural coatings or outdoor furniture, will need cleaning from time to time. How often you clean them depends on a few factors, such as:
- The geographical location of your building.
- The environment surrounding the products e.g. marine, industrial, alkaline or acidic, etc. The levels of atmospheric pollution including salts.
- Prevailing winds and the possibility of air borne debris causing erosive wear of the coating, for example. sand causing abrasion.
- Long term, a change in the environmental circumstances during the lifetime of the building e.g. if rural became industrial, can also affect the atmosphere and thus the wear on the coating.
- The effects of ultra violet light, pollution, dirt, grime and salt deposits can all accumulate on your powder coated surface over time.

How Often Should You Maintain?
To extend the effective life or powder coatings and protect any warranty requirements that may exist, a very simple regular maintenance program should be implemented for the removal of any residues.
As a general rule, cleaning should take place every six months. However, in areas where pollutants are more prevalent, especially in coastal or industrial regions, a cleaning program should be carried out on a more frequent basis (i.e. every three months).
To clean your powder coated surface:
- Carefully remove any loose deposits with a wet sponge.
- Use a soft brush (non-abrasive) or cloth, and a mild household detergent solution to remove dust, salt and other deposits.
- Rinse off with clean fresh water.
